Hi, I'm Victoria!

As a passionate neuroscientist with a PhD from Thomas Jefferson University, my day to day involves diving into cutting-edge research focused on unveiling the complicated and fascinating mechanisms driving synapse formation and function. Prior to my doctoral studies, I attended Drexel University where I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS in biological sciences.

I offer tutoring across a wide range of topics at difficulty levels ranging from primary education to graduate level courses- Some areas of study I offer include foundational biology, biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, neuroscience, and genetics. Additionally, as a full time laboratory researcher with 12+ years of experience, I am fully qualified to assist students in laboratory-based courses with tasks such as mastering benchwork techniques, drafting grants and laboratory reports, scientific presentations, and experimental design. Outside of my scientific expertise, I am also deeply committed to helping my students build confidence in their reading, writing, and public speaking skills.

Drawing from my extensive background in the performing arts, I believe in the power of confidence and self-expression and strive to ensure a learning environment where students feel supported and encouraged to explore, grow, and reach their full academic potential.

Approved Subjects

Biology

Biology

Doctoral candidate. 15+ yrs experience in a laboratory setting. Experienced course instructor at the college and graduate level
Genetics

Genetics

I have 10+ years experience working in a genetics research lab setting and I have tutored/TA'ed for high school, college and graduate level genetics courses. Over a decade of hands on experience working with a wide variety of genetic model organisms from Drosophila to mammalian models.
Neuroscience

Neuroscience

For the last 12 years, I have developed a comprehensive understanding of neuroscience through direct engagement with the field during my time as a synaptic and developmental biologist. I've excelled in graduate level courses such as neurophysiology, neuropharmacology, and cellular and molecular neuroscience. Additionally, I have successfully trained a number of young researchers at levels ranging from high school volunteers to graduate students. I am also a successful and practiced communicator of neuroscience concepts and have presented my research at nationally recognized conferences as well as to general audiences as a means to engage the public with the field in an approachable way.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

Scientific public speaker with multiple achievement awards with presenting at national conferences with audiences ranging from 30-2500 people. I also have an extensive background in the performing arts as both a performer and instructor which allows for conscious ability to counteract stage anxiety in students in a fun and supportive way.
Thesis Writing

Thesis Writing

As an academic researcher and developmental neuroscientist, I've prepared and published several academic research papers in reputable, peer-reviewed journals as well as assembled and submitted grant proposals to federal research institutions such as the NIH. I have also successfully written and defended a doctoral thesis focusing on signaling mechanisms required for synaptic target selection. In addition to my writing experience, while a graduate student I also took a number of courses and workshops offered by my institution to aid in the preparation of scientific documents such as manuscripts, reviews, and thesis preparation. Many of these courses involved coaching junior students through written assignments for their required course works, proofreading NIH grants such as F30-31s, and editing sections of manuscripts both within and adjacent to my field of expertise.
