I've been Mr. C for 18 years, but you can just call me Caleb. My unique background has made me a great teacher. I was raised by Southern US parents in Calgary, Canada. I went to university there, studying Computer Science and Spanish. What most people don't know is that a CS degree is mostly math. I've been Mr. C for 18 years, but you can just call me Caleb. My unique background has made me a great teacher. I was raised by Southern US parents in Calgary, Canada. I went to university there, studying Computer Science and Spanish. What most people don't know is that a CS degree is mostly math. Ironically, I was the only person in my family NOT to study education. Both of my parents are college professors, while both of my brothers studied to become teachers, but I wanted to play with computers!
By happy accident, I learned that teaching was a great way to experience new countries, and that I love helping others understand math. I moved to Guadalajara, Mexico, where I taught high school math for 18 years. Through those years, I’ve also worked with many accelerated students whose parents wanted them to be challenged, and worked with a piano prodigy to home-school her through all subjects. I’ve also helped countless students prepare for the SAT.
I'm taking a break to take care of my dad, and excited to move out of the classroom and work online. I have become very skilled at tutoring online through the pandemic, and am a whiz at using my tablet as a whiteboard to demonstrate concepts as we go through lessons. I teach because I love seeing the understanding light up the eyes of my students!
My favorite teaching has always involved working one-on-one or with small groups. Since I spent several years teaching Support Math, I've learned diverse ways to approach core concepts because students reach understanding in unique ways. I am confident that my teaching experience combined with my passion for math provides a strong foundation for all of my students.
Please contact me to schedule a lesson. I'm easy to reach and will respond quickly to any inquiry. Math and great communication skills might seem a strange combination, but I guess that's emblematic of me: rare, but awesome! I look forward to hearing from you!
