I have eight years of classroom experience teaching grades 6–12, including AP English, AP Literature, American and British literature surveys, honors English, grammar, Greek and Latin roots, and French I & II.

I offer dynamic, structured, discussion-based lessons tailored to each student, whether elementary, secondary, advanced, or college-level. I specialize in reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, AP and IB courses, college application and personal essays, and test prep for PSAT, SAT, ACT, CAASP, STAAR, Achieve 3000, I Ready, and more. I use proven materials, including College Board resources, sample Ivy League essays, practice tests, and supplemental tools like IXL, to help students excel.

My students’ successes speak for themselves: helping a student place in the finals of the 2025 John Locke Essay Competition (out of 63,328 entries), achieving perfect ACT scores—including the highest in a 100-year-old Catholic school’s history—and consistently exceeding expectations in writing. Voted favorite teacher by seniors three years in a row, I love guiding students in all aspects of English, including creative writing. Whatever your student is reading or preparing for, I’ve likely taught it and have the curriculum to help them succeed.

Accent Reduction

Accent Reduction

As a former middle and high school English teacher, I've worked with students in my inclusive classroom on many English as a second language skills including pronunciation. I also offer free student accounts to Quizizz which analyzes and scores pronunciation for any language, including English. The key to having a perfect American English accent - and one that will serve you well- is to focus on the phonics that make up each vowel team, diphthong, short and long vowels, and other common spelling patterns. Pronunciation has rules that allow you to improve your accent across the language. For example, there are three rules for pronouncing past-tense suffixes and rules for pronouncing plural words, how to pronounce /v/ sounds and /w/ sounds without merging the two. I provide clear outlines of each pronunciation rule with differentiated exercises to help you sound like a native. Being an experienced ESL tutor, I have tons of materials to cover rules and differences between languages that will help you speak clearly and in an understandable way. I'm very flexible, easy going, and passionate about helping my students. I go above and beyond to get the job done. My last ESL student, who I tutored for the interview process, recently landed a new job in the U.S., and I would love to help you reach your speaking goals, too.

Creative Writing

Creative Writing

I've taught all forms of creative writing including poetry, drama, and prose at the middle and high school levels with experience tutoring elementary students. I love creative writing and use classic examples of the best creative works to demonstrate to students powerful strategies and tools to write moving stories that communicate big ideas and allow students to express themselves with pride. As a former American and British literature teacher, I've taught most authors and their works, and I would say that the key to creative writing is knowing the tools and strategies that authors before us and today have used with deft ability like literary devices, strong word choice, structure, and rhythm and meter. Mirroring their creative advancements allows for amazing prose, poetry, and drama. I'm confident I can take your writing to the next level!

Amazing tutor

Jennifer taught both my children - one in middle school and one in elementary. She is an excellent language arts teacher. She helped both my kids with strong fundamentals and essay writing. Jennifer's guidance and efforts was crucial in helping my older child reach the top percentile of essay writers at the prestigious John Locke essay competition.

Very knowledgeable and helpful

Ms. Jennifer is an amazing teacher. My son tells me that he can’t wait for the next class each week. She encourages my child and I think has made him very confident in trying to comprehending complex words and paragraphs. She is extremely capable and understands what the focus area should be for the child to improve but at the same time does all this in a very fun and positive way. So happy to have found a teacher like her.

Skilled and doesn’t waste time.

Jennifer began work with my son right away. She was able to gauge his abilities and adjust on the fly to help him improve his essay-writing abilities. She had a bunch of age appropriate material already prepared and came up with a plan to benefit him the most.

A great English teach ...

I have two middle school children in 6th and 7th grade. Both of them like very much Jennifer after their first online class. Jennifer did an assessment on Grammar and Vocabulary in the first class, which helps to have a specific syllabus for each of them. She is very knowledgeable, nice and patient. My kids can immediately focus on the class topic from the beginning of class and keep a whole one hour class time. Thanks Jennifer!
