I have taught students outside of my family since I was eight years of age. However, some of my greatest successes professionally have been as a GED teacher. Generally, my 15 to 18 year old students scored on average at the third grade level in reading, and the fourth grade level in math on their entry placement or locator exams. Thirty days later on the next required State Exams, those same student would usually have increased their reading and math scores by at least two grade years.
As an effective, result-oriented teacher, I believe that the most effective teaching tool God has given to me is a holistic memory of how I felt when I didn't know the things I'm allowed to teach to others. I particularly love to teach math to grammar and high school students who "hate" math. I find these students to be a pleasant challenge for two main reasons.
In the first place, when students say they hate math, most often it is because they have not been successful in learning its logical order and the simplicity of its concepts. Secondly, when students are taught to understand the basic concepts rather than just the "how to" of math, their new knowledge is a lot more likely to propel their learning across academic boundaries into other subjects improving their overall desire to excel.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I would love to work with students at the Elementary (K-6th) level based on me having more than 15 years of experience, and an outstanding reputation of success teaching this age group. Although I have worked as a teacher for every age group from early childhood though adult, I particularly favor working at the elementary level. Over the years, I have created a unique teaching/learning technique that helps the student to understand relationships between letters for literacy, and digits for numeracy which lays a strong foundation and a great love for their future learning.
