Hi, I'm Stephen! I have a Doctorate in Chemical Engineering with 10+ years of experience teaching college level courses. Although currently in the private sector I still have a passion for teaching and mentoring in academic settings. As a professor I strongly believed in teaching through multiple avenues of learning, combined with an open door office policy to encourage easy interaction. Students are naturally curious and often posses the critical thinking skills necessary to understand a concept, but sometimes need guidance along the way. My teaching philosophy is that situational problem solving in will occur more naturally if students understand the basic, initial principles of a situation. Engaging this natural curiosity in fun, interactive ways maintains student interest and leads to increased knowledge retention.

The optimal learning process for a student changes with each individual, which is often difficult to address in large classroom settings. In tutoring I begin by establishing baselines of a student's current understanding in the target subject. Guided instruction based on their individual learning style is then supplemented with example problems, external references, and time for the student to practice material on their own.

My experience in teaching STEM classes is the perfect skill set for tutoring them as well. In addition to knowledge of the material I am also familiar with common areas where students struggle, and the various methods needed to make the leap of understanding.
