I am a patient and dedicated tutor with a strong academic background as well as tutoring experience in mathematics. I have experience working with elementary learners (1st through 5th graders), having tutored elementary school students in their homes during both my high school and college years. During four of my college years, I tutored 18–24-year-old college students in Developmental Math and Algebra during the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Currently, I serve as a substitute teacher in local K-12 classrooms, where I teach elementary (Kindergarten-5th graders) and middle school (6th-8th graders) mathematics, as well as special education students, across a variety of grades and school environments.
I hold Bachelor of Science degrees in both Psychology and Computer Science where I maintained a 3.34 GPA. My formal education includes the successful completion of courses in Algebra, Trigonometry, Linear Algebra, Calculus I and II, Discrete Mathematics, Elementary and Graduate Statistics. During my time as a college student, I was an active member of the Association for Computing Machinery. During my time as an elementary student, I was a two-year member of the Math Olympiads for Elementary Schools, now called MOEMS (Math Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools).
In our sessions, I focus on removing the fear in kindergarten through 5th grade math (approximate ages: 5-11) that often creates a barrier to success in mathematics. We will review your math goals and set learning goals together. We will then work at a pace that is comfortable for you to ensure you gain confidence in the math topics as you move through the goals of each lesson. I specialize in a wide range of elementary math topics, including place value and number sense, multiplication and long division, multi-digit addition and subtraction, fractions and decimals, ratios and percentages, basic geometry, measurement, and introduction to algebraic variables.
