Hi! My name is Genevieve, but please call me Jenny. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Secondary Mathematics Education with a minor in Music, a Master’s of Education (MEd) in Educational Leadership, and an Educational Specialist (EdS) in Educational Leadership. In college, I enjoyed most of my classes as I am an avid learner. However, my math courses allowed me to connect to the world more so because of critical and logical thinking that had to take place. Also, the professors brought a sense of joy in seeing the beauty of math in the patterns that are all around us. In my lessons, I try to bring this out in students. I will introduce a concept using something fun and/interesting, trying to incorporate the students’ interests. Time will always be given for students to practice the concepts covered.
I have taught and tutored middle school math, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Algebra 3, Calculus, College Algebra, College Trigonometry, and Remedial Math throughout my 30+ years of classroom teaching. I utilized small groups when necessary in the classroom. I have also tutored my students after school and other students in the evenings. Sometimes these sessions were re-teaching because the students needed reinforcement or to provide homework assistance.
Students’ confidence in their mathematical ability is extremely low. It is very important to me that students realize that they are mathematicians and can learn math. I want to see that they succeed in their math courses and gain the confidence necessary to succeed. I welcome any and all resources and suggestions that parents (and students) can provide. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to schedule a session.
