Although I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Analysis and had advanced studies in organic chemistry, I began in high school chemistry and I had a hard time. I may have been employed as a metals analyst using an ICP-AES, an instrument I hadn't heard of before I ran it, but I once thought chemistry was not for me....
Why am I the chemistry tutor for you? Because I know what it's like. I am the chemistry tutor for you because I know how it feels to struggle in chemistry. Although I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Analysis and had advanced studies in organic chemistry, I began in high school chemistry and I had a hard time. I may have been employed as a metals analyst using an ICP-AES, an instrument I hadn't heard of before I ran it, but I once thought chemistry was not for me. I was attending a gifted and talented residential high school at the time and was doing well in my other subjects., but my professor's teaching style and my learning style were just not compatible. Unfortunately, I started thinking that I could not learn chemistry. I passed the course and moved on. It was a prerequisite but I had little intention of doing much chemistry in college. I thought that I just couldn't get it. I had no expectation of studying more than the required chemistry courses in college. But then during orientation week my freshman year, I took the required chemistry placement exam and tested out of General Chemistry I & II and was placed in Organic Chemistry I. I was also hired to work as a Teacher's Assistant and Laboratory Assistant for the Chemistry Department, a position I held for four years. My main experience tutoring comes from this role, which was basically 24/7. Because I helped any student anywhere when they needed it. I really just want people to understand chemistry. And I aced that exam despite convincing myself that I knew nothing. I am very lucky that the professor I had for organic chemistry made all the difference in my attitude towards a subject I now love and my own confidence in my abilities to learn it. I love talking about organic chemistry in particular. I really want people to do well in their classes but also to find chemistry exciting. Let me convince you that you can learn chemistry, and maybe even love it.
