I have an M.S. in Applied Statistics and spent years working as a professional statistician before becoming a teacher. I taught AP Statistics and introductory college statistics for more than 15 years, and I also served as an AP Statistics Reader, scoring free-response questions on the AP exam. That combination gives me a perspective I think is especially useful to students: I know how statistics is used in the real world and how students are expected to reason, write, and communicate in a statistics course.

AP Statistics can be frustrating because the hardest part is often not the calculation. Students may know how to use their calculator but still be unsure which procedure to choose, what conditions need to be checked, what the result means, or how to write a complete conclusion in context. My sessions are diagnostic. We start with the question or step that stopped making sense, trace backward until we find the missing idea, and then work through the statistical reasoning. My goal is not simply to get you through one problem. I want the next version of that problem to look familiar.

I work especially well with AP Statistics students who want ongoing support, students preparing for unit tests or the AP exam, and college students taking introductory statistics. We can use your class notes, assignments, quizzes, review materials, or AP practice questions. Statistics does not have to feel like a collection of unrelated formulas. Once the structure underneath the course becomes clear, it becomes much more manageable and often much more interesting.
