Thanks for checking in on my profile! I graduated from Nicholls State University, cum laude, with a BA in Literary Studies with a minor in History. I have an MA in English Literature at Auburn University. I am currently completing my Ph.D. in English Literature at Louisiana State University. When I think about the kind of tutor I want to be, I try to remember what kind of teacher I needed in my early college years. The professors who helped build me up impacted my educational journey in ways I still consider today.
I have three years of teaching experience in literature and composition in the classroom setting with college and AP-level students. I have likewise tutored and worked on small-group summer English programs with students from 3rd grade into 12th grade, including one-on-one, classroom setting, ACT/SAT prep, and end-of-grade prep. I approach all of my sessions in a student-forward approach, helping students find the best study techniques that suit their learning style, as well as helping them approach assignments/ test-taking in a scaffolded way. My overall goal in all classes I have taught has been to be a resource and guide for my students. Not to quote the cliché, but being a “guide on the side, not a sage on the stage” has become a tremendously important part of pedagogy. I model this in my sessions by avoiding lectures and using the “I do, we do, you do” method as a core of the tutoring space. For instance, I've helped a struggling 10th grader improve their literature grades from a C to an A in just one semester.
I am committed to maximizing my students' learning experience and value any resources or suggestions that students or parents can provide. Your input is integral to our shared goal of academic success. I am easily reachable and would like to respond quickly to your questions. Please get in touch with me for any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!
