Hello! My name is Ms. Eva - your personal Knowledge Diva. When I graduated with my first degree in math, I won an award for being a top student of my college, the state, and earned a nomination for the USA Today All-Academic team. With my second degree, I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. In 2016 I began teaching online and earned a 120hr certificate in TESOL. I specialize in teaching math, science, and ELA concepts and skills for 4th grade up to graduate level. I have 18 years of experience teaching and making math a student’s new favorite subject. One student said I even taught calculus like a magic show. “Eww fractions! Let’s make them disappear!”

Don’t worry, not all my students are taking Physics, Calculus,or learning English as a second language, but I can help get them ready. I take pride in personalizing each student’s lesson to their learning style and interests. Hate math but love guacamole? Let’s break out a recipe and multiply it for a party or practice fractions and ratios to get the recipe just right. If you make it fun, it will get done!

During our first meeting we will discuss the student’s academic goals, interests, current habits, and see what learning plan best suits their needs. Depending on current grade and goals, I will make a recommendation of 2-3 sessions per week. We can set up a time that works best for them. I've spent over 20 years teaching grammar, usage, and sentence structure, primarily through ESL instruction where students had to master these rules explicitly rather than by ear. That lines up directly with what the ACT English section tests: punctuation, syntax, and rhetorical skills questions that reward knowing the rule, not just having a feel for the language. I also tutor math and statistics, so I bring a pattern-based, rule-driven approach that works well for students who think more logically than intuitively. I recently passed Wyzant's ACT English qualification and I'm applying that same structured approach to test prep.

I've spent over 20 years teaching and tutoring across math, ESL, physics, and statistics, which means I know how to break down dense, unfamiliar text for students who are still building confidence as readers. For ACT Reading specifically, I teach students to read passages strategically under time pressure: separating the author's actual claim from a tempting but wrong answer choice, tracking tone and structure, and using process of elimination instead of guessing. My science and math background is a real advantage on the Natural Science and Social Science passages, where students usually lose points to unfamiliar vocabulary or data, not to actual reading skill. I focus on transferable strategies, not just drilling practice tests, so scores go up and comprehension actually improves.

Lessons with Ms Eva the Diva

Couldn't ask for a better teacher! Ms Eva is both helpful and makes learning super fun. I have enjoyed having lessons with her and I have seen improvement in my grades as well. She is very flexible so when I need help with math some days and science another day she will help me without hesitation (she is excellent at both topics by the way). I would definitely recommend her to needs a awesome and patient teacher!
