I am a former high school chemistry teacher who taught honors and college dual credit chemistry courses for four years. I completed a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Chemistry in only 5 years. During my time in college, I served my fellow students as a chemistry and math tutor for nearly four years. I also spent three semesters as a General Chemistry laboratory instructor.

I find it disappointing to see students feel discouraged by their struggles in chemistry. Everyone should have a chance to succeed in their science courses, and sometimes the school system leaves some students behind. I've always enjoyed working with students and helping them gain knowledge in subjects that I love (and are incredibly important in today's STEM-focused society). I also feel that no student should feel discouraged from reaching out for help in a subject that they find difficult; there are no stupid questions in my opinion, seeking knowledge is the most noble pursuit.

When working with students, I always make sure to avoid simply telling them the correct answer and moving on. I instead choose to focus on HOW to arrive at the correct answer. Math problems are often be a challenge to read, let alone answer. So I spend time discussing how to decipher what is being asked of a student and encourage critical thinking rather than rote memorization of facts or formulas.
