I have a strong academic and professional background in biology and aquatic sciences, with both a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master of Science in Aquatic Biology from Eastern Kentucky University. My graduate studies included advanced coursework in biology, ecology, microbiology, genetics, chemistry, statistics, and environmental science, along with research focused on freshwater fish ecology and movement in Kentucky streams. I also gained extensive laboratory, field, and scientific writing experience, as well as data analysis skills using programs such as R and ArcGIS.
I have several years of teaching and instructional experience through my work as a Biology Graduate Assistant at Eastern Kentucky University, where I taught laboratory sections for introductory biology, ichthyology, and clinical microbiology courses. I worked with college students in both group and one-on-one settings, helping them understand scientific concepts through hands-on instruction, demonstrations, assessments, and guided discussion. My teaching style focuses on simplifying complex topics and adapting explanations to fit each student’s learning style.
Currently, I work as an Environmental Biologist with the Kentucky Division of Water, where I apply biology, chemistry, and environmental science in research and monitoring programs across the state. I also have experience mentoring younger students through volunteer and camp counseling programs, which strengthened my communication skills and ability to work with a wide range of ages and learning backgrounds.
