I have been tutoring since roughly August of 2017, where I began working at a learning center with at-risk youth. I tutored and taught children from ages 2-12 in all subjects from learning the alphabet or simple colors, to understanding elementary algebra, geometry, and language arts. Working with these children who's socioeconomic status and home life made it hard to learn and have the same opportunity as others, allowed me to make such an impact on demonstrating to these students the importance and value of learning. Alas, this lesson in valuing education was harder to teach to toddlers and preschool kids, but through embracing the hobbies my school-age children enjoyed, I found new innovative ways to teach and tutor. I helped them with their homework assignments and in 2023, I was a team-lead for the "Summer Bridging Program" there that worked to continue reinforcing subject topics that many children tend to forget during the summer. In 2023, I began working as a biology and Spanish tutor at my university. In this role I gained more knowledge on tutoring techniques and I was able to help many of my clients with research proposals, exam review, learning vocabulary, understanding conjugation and much more. One of the most important methods of teaching and tutoring that I have adopted after a year is being able to meet individuals where they're at in their learning journey or even just where they are with their knowledge in the subject I'm tutoring. I love to use charts, graphs, and new and innovative ways to help clients.
I have taught in classroom settings with up to 20 children and even in smaller one-on-one settings with my university. I sometimes will have larger groups of 10-15 students at my university and in that case, my tutoring sessions will transform into a lecture and/or content review kind of session.
