Hello, I am Addison! I graduated with honors from The University of Akron with a degree in Classical Guitar Performance and a degree in Classical Composition. I then went on to be a music theory teacher at The University of Kentucky while graduating with a Master's degree in Composition with a focus on electronic music. I have been in multiple conferences and festivals nationwide for my compositions and have been commissioned by the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra.

Music is a highly personal and individualistic field, and the challenges students face are also unique. I pride myself as a teacher on focusing on the student's needs and wellbeing first and foremost. Music studies are complex and demanding, but that doesn't mean it can't be fun and rewarding!

During my time as a teacher at UK, I handled multiple full classes each semester. Primarily teaching written and aural theory to music majors. I was also the sole teacher for two versions of music for non-majors.

During my time in undergrad, I ran a large private guitar studio for the Trillium Schools of Music. Currently for LexPhil, I develop courses and programs on computer-based music creation, from writing sheet music for classical instrumentation to how to produce music and understand synthesizers.

I have experience teaching classes and private lessons for students from as young as 1st grade to senior citizen programs. I am accepting students of all ages and skill levels! Reach out to discuss your specific tutoring needs and have a trial lesson.

Composition (Music)

Composition (Music)

I have a bachelors degree based in classical composition and am all but thesis defense for a master’s degree in electroacoustic composition. I taught for multiple years as a private lesson teacher, and teaching assistant with some students and course sections focusing on composition (songwriting and classical). Currently, I teach creative aging composition classes for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute as a part of my job as a teaching artist with the Lexington Philharmonic. The philharmonic has also commissioned me as a composer and computer musician to build an original composition/sound installation for a fundraising event, and I've been featured in multiple symposiums and festivals for my electroacoustic work.
General Music

General Music

I am about to finish my third music degree, composition, guitar performance and now a master's in composition focused on electronic music. I have been a performer and composer for western art music, rock, and experimental electronic music groups and have extensive experience performing in groups and as a soloist. Furthermore, I was a full theory TA for The University of Kentucky's theory and composition department, teaching music majors Written and Aural theory and being the sole teacher for multiple iterations of music for non majors. I now work for the Lexington Philharmonic and design and run workshops and programs, usually focused on composition, but some have been more general music learning or special areas like film music.
Music Production

Music Production

My main job currently and for the past two years is working as the studio assistant and audio engineer for the composer Stephen Trask (Hedwig and the Angry Inch). I help Stephen with all aspects of running the studio and recording and making music for various projects, and have credits as an audio engineer on some of his most recent work, including the soundtrack to his newest movie I'll Be There. We work in REAPER and Logic Pro mostly, and I have experience mixing and mastering with many 3rd party software programs and hardware racks such as Universal Audio Gear, Verbos and Buchla Modular, Melodyne, Izotope etc. I also solo write and produce all of my own compositions and have done production work for students and some of the Lexington Philharmonic classes' output.
Music Theory

Music Theory

I taught music theory for two years, written and aural (ear training and sight singing) at the collegiate level for beginning music majors and non music majors as a full-time TA while pursuing a master’s degree in composition. Theory has always been a passion of mine, and is one of my favorite subjects in music! I have also taught theory as a secondary subject to my composition and guitar lessons for over 8 years, and to all age groups from very young children to senior citizens. As a composer and theorist, I can teach popular music, electroacoustic music and also beginner to advanced Western Art Tradition music. Come to me to learn anything from pop music and guitar chords to fugal counterpoint and atonal serial music.
Songwriting

Songwriting

I have extensive experience as a composer and songwriter, being in multiple symposiums and media festivals and earning a residency in the 23-24 Nomadic Soundsters cohort. My compositional style is heavily influenced by my start in music as a self-taught guitarist and singer-songwriter. I have won a creative writing scholarship for lyrics to two of my songs, and also had a folk and electronic song featured in the 2024 UK Appalachian Research Symposium and Arts Showcase. I have taught private and group work on songwriting and am the assistant to renown Broadway songwriter Stephen Trask (Hedwig and the Angry Inch).

Music Wizard

Addison is deeply knowledgeable about so many aspects of music and production. Specifically, she is helping me learn the ins and outs of MIDI programming as it relates to music theory and song structure. She's helping on both MacOS and iOS. Very satisfied.

Good teacher for Dorico if you're migrating from Finale

I'm someone who has an aversion for learning through YouTube tutorials. Addison is the opposite. She's showing me the things that I want to learn on a music writing program that's new to me called Dorico. Both of us had previously used Finale, but Addison made it her business to learn Dorico as soon as she could. She was a pleasure to work with.
