I am a seasoned, master’s level teacher with a love of children. My teaching journey began at West Virginia University where I discovered my passion in Early Childhood and Elementary education and Spanish. In 1986 I became a certified elementary teacher with an early childhood and Spanish specialization. I taught for many years as a kindergarten and early elementary teacher and then received my master’s in elementary education from the University of Louisville. I have always greatly enjoyed working with the natural curiosity and excitement of younger students. I believe every child is capable of success and that a teacher’s responsibility is to engage their student by respecting their individual learning styles and structuring lessons that build on their strengths. Learning should be joyful and an adventure for children and I believe in building personal confidence in each student that will reflect in their academic confidence. Every child can be successful once they are given opportunities to believe in themselves.
Over the years, my growing love of children and families inspired me to raise a big family of my own, which has been the biggest accomplishment in my personal life. I am now an almost empty nest mom of eight, 5 sons and 3 daughters who continue amaze and teach me me with their integrity and dedication in their endeavors. When my youngest children were all in full time school, I went to Indiana University Southeast and completed 6 hours of post graduate work in elementary education and worked then as a full time lead preschool teacher in various settings.
