I have been educating students for more than 20 years, teaching and tutoring at two and four year colleges and universities as well as offering test prep courses and one on one coaching. Courses I taught include English composition, developmental math, and college math. Four of my KY students have just been selected for GSP, and another of my students was named a National Merit Semi-Finalist.

Watching my students raise their test scores, master a difficult subject, and achieve their goals is a joy and the reason that I teach and tutor. I am patient and skilled at explaining ideas and concepts in multiple ways to accommodate the needs of the students. And I'm great at responding to emergency "My ACT composite was what???" situations.

IN-PERSON vs ONLINE LESSONS

In addition to in person tutoring, I also offer online lessons which I conduct using computer accessories and advanced software. This allows me to draw/write on a tablet and have it show up directly on your computer screen while you can still hear and see me, like a virtual whiteboard. In addition, this is much more convenient and comfortable for the student - tutoring literally in the comfort of your own home.

As part of my English major (with honors) at Transylvania University, I took a film course and made an A. After graduation, I worked for several years as a film critic for newspapers in Florida. I love movies, so I still spend a great deal of time at the theater or at home, studying film. I rewatched the classic "Anatomy of a Murder" last night. And when the Oscars roll around, I will be hosting my annual party.

For 20 years, I have worked with elementary and high school students, college students, and non-traditional students. Tutoring often begins with teaching the student how to study. In particular, annotation, time management, and organization are needed skills for successful study. In addition, techniques can be taught to improve both reading comprehension and reading speed. Learning when and how to take notes is an often needed yet overlooked skill. Test takers benefit from learning ways to maximize short term memory.

PSAT Writing and Language - this is basically a grammar test, and it is very similar to ACT English. STAAR

I am KY and TN state certified in middle school math. As a tutor and test prep coach, I teach the material on the STAAR exam daily. I have been preparing students for all four sections of the ACT since I first offered the course at Austin Peay State University in 1997. I regularly tutor students in English, literature, math, US history, and biology. I have a bachelor's degree in English with honors from Transylvania University. I have a minor in biology from Austin Peay State University.

Knowledgeable and Patient Tutor

I'm currently being tutored by Kate for the Kaplan nursing entrance exam she has been tutoring in all 4 subjects Math, reading, science and English. She is very knowledgeable in all subjects. She really takes her time and explains things to you and helps you feel better my weakest subjects are reading and English after i have a session with her I always come away like i'm learning something new. I would tell anyone if you want someone who is kind and knows the material she is the best tutor for you. I have given her number to plenty of my nursing friends.Even after this test I'm going to keep her number for future references. Thanks, Kate your the best

Praxis writing

I learned today specifically the multiple choice of the writing/grammar portion. I enjoy how much she broke each grammar rule down for me.

MAGICAL

I struggle with test taking in general. I took the TEAS once and could have passed by with getting into LPN school, but I really wanted to be a RN. It had always been my dream. The school that I was applying for needed my TEAS score to be an additional 10 points from my first test score. I knew I could raise my score by a few points, but would have never dreamed I could have done it by 12 points. I would not have been able to be so successful if it was not for Kate. She worked with me One on One regardless to where I was situated and helped me with TEAS concepts and practice tests. I am now in my 5th quarter of nursing School working on Pharmacology and Fundamentals. I worked very hard to get to this point and Kate was the push I needed to get this far.

BEST TUTOR

Kate is by far the best tutor that I have ever learned from. She is so positive. I am 30 years old and have not been in school for a long time and was able to help me with English, science, math, and reading comprehension for my TEAS test. I ended up passing my TEAS test with her help. She was so patient and helpful to me. I am so glad that I found Kate. I will use her again for tutoring. She truly got me through a very stressful time. Kate is the best and I will always be grateful and thankful for all her help.

Absolutely the best experience

Kate is just outstanding. Her lesson plans are clear, focused and truly represent the type of questions I saw on my TEAS exam. Kate challenged me to research answers independently but was always a "click" away when I needed additional guidance. Bottom line, I passed the TEAS and it's due in very large measure to Kate!

ACT prep tutoring! Superb, fantastic tutor

For any student trying to prepare for the ACT or the SAT, I cannot encourage you enough to request Kate's services.....if she is available. My daughter is a good student, and I wasn't sure the prep would be necessary, but oh was I wrong. Kate is thorough, she doesn't mess around. She expects the students to put the time in that she requires, but she is gently, caring, INVOLVED, and highly intelligent. When 1 point on an ACT makes the difference in what college your child can attend, don't hesitate to call Kate. My daughter went from a 30 on her practice test, to a 32 with the 1st ACT attempt and a 34 with a perfect English score of 36 on the 2nd attempt. Needless to say, college options are wide open. She encouraged us to apply and take the PSAT 1 week later --- which I thought was a waste. Turns out...once again....she was right! My daughter aced the PSAT and now her email inbox is stuffed with colleges interested in her. Your student does not have to be a star to benefit from Kate's help. They just need to be able to call her, talk to her, and Kate will design a practice review that works for your child's personality, study habits, etc. She fills in gaps where the schools miss out --- and believe me, there are many. I cannot thank her enough for her work with our daughter. She lightened the load for us, her parents, gave our daughter the confidence to do well, and meet her goals. It is worth every single penny you spend on the tutoring that she provides. Scrimp and save elsewhere, but not on this. You wont regret it!!

I will always recomend her!

Kate was excellent at explaing things to my son, evrything was so much clearer after my son had a lesson with her, and her personality is even better! She is very proffesional and knows how to apply her knowledge into the lessons. The only thing that I regret, is not picking her earlier.

Ms Kate is awesome

I have two of my boys who are receiving tutoring from ms Kate. My youngest son who is a 7th grader, he's getting tutored for reading.. He is really enjoying ms Kate.. My oldest son is getting ACT prep tutoring from ms Kate.. Which at first he wasn't sure he wanted, but after the first session he said he really thinks she can help him get the score he needs for ACT. I really think ms Kate will be a great help to my boys and I would highly recommend her to any one who needs a tutor.
