I am a certified elementary educator with nearly two decades of experience working in elementary schools as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, and principal. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Eastern Kentucky University, a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Kentucky University, and a Master’s degree in Principalship from the University of the Cumberlands. I also completed Director of Pupil Personnel preparation through the University of the Cumberlands, although that credential is no longer active.
My professional experience has been focused on elementary students, families, and teachers. I tutor elementary math, reading, study skills, and social studies. Social studies is a particular passion of mine, and my history background helps me make people, places, events, and ideas understandable and interesting for younger learners. In math and reading, I explain skills in clear steps, use examples connected to the student’s interests, and check often for understanding.
My approach is patient, encouraging, and practical. I begin by identifying what the student already understands, where confusion begins, and what the student or parent hopes to accomplish. I then build focused lessons with clear modeling, guided practice, independent practice, and a short review of progress. My goal is to help students complete current work while also building confidence, organization, and skills they can use independently.
