Bio

I am trained to the Orton-Gillingham gold standard of reading remediation for readers with dyslexia. Yet, I am different from your standard OG reading interventionist. Usually, you get 50 minutes of phonics and 10 minutes of reading, in decodable texts. These are texts which do not include anything your child does not already know. I include way more reading time, and we add REAL BOOKS. I have had students come to me for tutoring for whom OG "didnt work." Two of my students have mothers who...

I have had students come to me for tutoring for whom OG "didnt work." Two of my students have mothers who are OG teachers! What they were not doing was paying attention to transfer of skills from the phonics lesson to actual reading in natural text. Reading a good book together, with feedback, after practicing a needed letter combination or phonics concept, creates higher order transfer of skills. And it is way more fun for the student than 50 minutes of drills. I know which drills we need, and they can be accomplished while still leaving room to develop your child's "real time" reading skills. Plus, every student is different. Some have gaps in the basics, some know their basics but struggle with reading longer, unknown words. These can also overlap, so a student--especially one with dyslexia--needs an integrated and individualized program.

Teacher for over 30 years, specialized into reading intervention 7 years ago. Current master's degree candidate in Reading Science at Mt. St. Joseph University, Cincinnati, OH. Can build up reading fluency more quickly than your typical OG reading tutor. The secret: building enjoyment of really good books into the phonics lesson to keep kids interested and transfer skills to reading in real text.

I also teach creative writing and can coach the preparation and writing of the novel as well as short stories, essays and poetry. Super creative, enthusiastic and fun teacher

Linda taught me a ton about grammar in just one session. She also is coaching me, helping me edit my writing, which is giving me more confidence. She is very fun and creative in helping me figure out how to get the most out of the lessons. I highly recommend her to anyone who is looking fir a down to earth and authentic person to work with, who is very knowledgeable.

You wont regret it

She helped me yesterday prepare for the end of grade test and with my pronunciations so I can be able to use these words in my everyday life. she helped me do this by breaking down the words into words i already know.

Very patient teacher

I really enjoyed my first class with Linda. Trying to work out a schedule for more classes. Linda is a delight to work with, so very positive. Of course, it probably help that I am the greatest painter in the whole wide world... ha, ha, ha.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Linda is teaching my 9 year old granddaughter beginning drawing. Her lesson was far above my expectations. She is excellent at her teachings of drawing and her patience and understanding of teaching a child.

Great with my kid, highly recommended!

Excellent rapport working with my teenaged daughter. Linda was able to get my child motivated and excited to do some artwork and put together a portfolio for art school (my kid is often apprehensive about sharing her artwork with others). Linda is also very knowledgeable and knows her stuff!

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Linda taught me the different skillsets that are needed for the jobs I'm applying to. I liked that she was patient and understanding. She helped me research the field and industry I'm looking to get into so I could write a fitting cover letter

Amazing and supportive tutor

Linda was amazing with my son. She was so supportive and encouraging he can’t wait for his next lesson. She also validated what I’ve always thought about my son that he’s a natural artist and her enthusiasm and just overall style of teaching is absolutely fantastic

Great with children

My daughter really enjoyed her drawing lesson. She learned about proportions and perspective. Linda provided an excellent summary of the class right away. Very professional and we look forward to more sessions.

Linda is knowledgeable and understanding

I love how Linda suggested innovative ideas. Each session has offered ideas which will be helpful for my Cumulative Project. Linda presents with much zeal for the subject matter and that keeps the sessions engaging.
