Pratt Institute (Art)
St. Mary of the Woods (Master's)
I teach three subjects: math, writing, and art.
I was always a strong student and I loved homework, but most kids want to relax after school, move around, and have fun. I was trained in the Waldorf method of teaching to each child's individual temperament, using a creative and fun approach, incorporating movement and art to learn academic subjects. As a Waldorf teacher, I was trained in curriculum for grades 1-8.
I also tutor at a more advanced level for reading and writing, up through high school and college levels. I taught writing classes at Cincinnati State. I am currently studying for a masters degree in art therapy, and I am open to special needs students who might need a therapeutic or adjusted approach.
I took Pre-algebra and Algebra 1 at Cincinnati State to update my skills and to make sure the way I teach these subjects employs current trends for math learning.
As a Waldorf teacher, I was trained to teach children to read phonetically and pictorially, using art and story to engage interest and memory. I have taught reading and writing from first grade up to remedial writing at Cincinnati State, where focus was on the five-paragraph essay, with strong topic sentences and paragraph structure within a variety of essay types. I also teach research paper writing.
My bachelors is in fine art, from Pratt Institute, in Brooklyn, NYC, currently the #1 rated art college in the United States. I won their National Talent Search my senior year of high school and attended on a talent scholarship. I am a classically trained oil painter, and trained also in drawing, printmaking, photography, ceramics, sculpture, color theory, and art history. I studied watercolor technique at Rudolf Steiner College during my Waldorf teacher training. I studied masters level oil painting with a private studio teacher who is an instructor in the DAP program at U.C. I am currently studying therapeutic art making, including the use of drawing, painting, collage, and other mixed media for symbolic processing of feelings, and issues of self and identity, towards creating wellness and wholeness of the individual.
