I have more than 27 years of teaching experience working with students of different ages and learning needs in both classroom and online settings. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (K-6) from Eastern Kentucky University, along with a Master of Arts in Education in Library Science and a Master of Arts in Reading. I also hold TESOL and TEFL certifications, which have supported my work teaching English language learners. My educational background and professional training have provided me with strong skills in literacy instruction, student engagement, and differentiated teaching strategies.
For most of my career, I have taught kindergarten and first grade in the Boyle County Board of Education. I have also worked as a Primary Reading Teacher and Special Education Teacher, helping students strengthen foundational reading and academic skills. My classroom experience includes whole-group instruction, small-group intervention, and individualized support for students with varying learning styles and abilities. In addition, I have served as a Reading First Master Trainer, America’s Choice Trainer for Readers and Writers Workshops, KTIP Resource Teacher, and mentor for student teachers.
In addition to my elementary classroom experience, I have taught online as an Adjunct Professor for the Kentucky Community and Technical College System since 2010. I have worked with adult learners in virtual classroom settings, providing instruction, feedback, and academic support. I also taught English online through VIPKID from 2017 to 2025, working one-on-one with children in China to improve their English speaking, reading, and comprehension skills. These experiences have strengthened my ability to connect with students of all ages and adapt my teaching methods to meet individual learning needs in both in-person and online environments
