Thank you for your interest in my Wyzant tutoring profile! I bring over 20 years of experience in education-- including 17.5 years as a high school Social Studies teacher and 3 years as a substitute teacher--working with grades 7--12 and within a variety of subject areas.
I hold both a bachelor's and a master's degree in education, and I was recognized as a National Board Certified Teacher in 2008. In addition to my classroom experience, I coordinated my school's after-school tutoring program for 12 years, where I worked closely with students needing additional academic support and helped tailor instruction to meet a wide range of learning needs.
My tutoring approach is rooted in the belief that students learn best when they are actively engaged and personally invested in the material. I strive to make learning both meaningful and memorable by encouraging creativity and student expression. For example, I often invited students to demonstrate their understanding through projects such as building models, writing poems or songs, drawing or acting out historical events, etc. These approaches not only deepen comprehension but also help students connect emotionally and intellectually with the subject matter.
