I’ve spent many years working in education, and I really enjoy helping students understand concepts in a way that feels clear and manageable. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Berea College, and my background has given me a strong foundation in math, along with the ability to explain problems in multiple ways. I focus on meeting each student where they are and adjusting my approach based on how they learn best, whether that means slowing things down, using different examples, or walking through problems step by step.
From 2012 to 2024, I homeschooled and taught multiple students across a range of subjects, especially math, working in one-on-one and small group settings. This included teaching my own children, who had different learning needs, which helped me develop a flexible and patient approach to instruction. I learned how to adapt lessons, keep students engaged, and find different ways to explain the same concept until it made sense. I often use guided practice, step-by-step explanations, and real-life examples to help students build both understanding and confidence. I also like to ask questions along the way so students can think through problems independently rather than just memorizing steps.
I also worked as a substitute teacher from 1995 to 1999 in classroom settings across different grade levels, which helped me become comfortable adapting quickly and managing a variety of learning environments. I currently work remotely as an AI Trainer, where I evaluate responses for clarity and accuracy, which further strengthens my ability to communicate ideas clearly. In my tutoring sessions, I aim to create a relaxed and supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and learning at their own pace—sometimes with a little humor to keep things from feeling too heavy.
