I'm Skyler! I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History from Berea College. Through my four years of undergraduate, I worked as a Teaching Assistant for developmental mathematics for one year, and an assistant at the Center for International Education (CIE) for two years. At the CIE, I helped over 200 students to study and intern abroad in various countries including Italy, Taiwan, Mexico, Australia, and more. It was through this job that I realized just how passionate I am about teaching and helping people.
My approach to tutoring involves combining "hybrid," self-paced resources like Khan Academy with other exercises that rely on more direct teaching. In my experience as a Teaching Assistant, I worked with students on a one-on-one basis as I found it to be the most effective strategy to help the majority of my struggling students. For those who needed more social support for learning, we held small groups to practice homework, and I would assist only when needed.
My hope is that students feel supported and empowered as I work with them. I am always open to new suggestions and methods to make my teaching style more effective. I am easy to reach and will always respond within a 24-hour time frame. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson!
