I also ran competitively in cross country and track while at Friends, which has led me down a path of coaching, as well.
My teaching experience comes mostly from working as an instructor for various art and creativity classes during summer camps throughout high school and college. I worked with inner city youth, usually from detention facilities, teaching things such as filmmaking, creative writing, guitar, basketball, etc. I have also spent the last three years coaching running at the college, middle, and high school levels, so I have good experience working with school age children from all types of backgrounds.
Coaching has taught me more than anything the importance of learning about each and every person as an individual and finding how that individual thinks and works in order to best help him or her achieve their goals. I am passionate about tutoring, specifically, because it gives me the chance to work one-on-one with a student, whereas coaching a team or teaching a class involves balancing many different personalities and learning styles, which can be complicated and lead to someone missing out somewhere or other.
I studied Spanish in undergrad, and spent one month living and studying in Cancun, Mexico in 2013. I have a particular passion for the grammar and literature of the language, and finding ways that it interacts with English to make the learning process richer and more fun.
I have my Bachelor's in English, and am half way through my Master's in the subject. What's more, I am genuinely passionate about the study of language and literature, from grammar to poetry analysis, I love it all, and I love helping others find a way to enjoy it, as well.
