I am a tutor who likes to make my lessons informative but also likes to make it interesting. Sometimes comical but very straightforward. I have experience
teaching overseas, in public schools as well as private schools. I have been a newspaper reporter, photographer, copy editor, page editor, and tutor before. Now I am a school bus monitor for special needs children. When I was a teacher, I taught special needs children English. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My qualifications make me the perfect Elementary Math tutor. First, I have experience teaching Elementary Math overseas in Korea and Taiwan. As an ESL teacher I designed a unique ESL program that included arithmetic. Since I taught all grades, I broke it down into addition and subtraction for first graders, multiplication and division for second and third graders, and a little more complex equations for fourth and fifth graders...all spoken in English. Second, I have also tutored Elementary Math as well. Any more information can be looked up at my Qualifications page.
My Bachelors was in Communication. Public Speaking along with speaking for business professionals was my core courses in my program. I did public speaking for a student organization I ran. Furthermore, I already taught and tutored people in public speaking.
These are the related courses in obtaining my degree. The first class is Public Speaking. This is a general education basic skills course. I studied basic concepts of speech communication as applied to public speaking. The second related class I took is Speaking for Business Professionals. It is a study of the basic concepts of public speaking and discussions as they apply to the business and professional person. It emphasizes public presentations, group leadership and interpersonal communication as appropriate to business and professional oral communication.
As a President of a student organization, I had real world experiences. Several times I had to speak to small groups to large crowds about the issues plaguing our communities. And with my speeches try to garner support for my causes.
As a teacher, I had to speak to students and other teachers. For the students. I addressed what lessons were the targets, instructing them how to do their assignment, and any homework to be done. I also observed their presentations to the class and helped them do better presentations in future instances. As for other teachers, explaining what I have done to help students as well as what might help them in speaking with students that they listen.
Finally, I tutored Public Speaking. Several students wanted help on speaking skills whether it was tone of voice or non verbal communication. I gave them suggestions on improvement after giving them a chance to show their best.
