My name is Susan R, I earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Sterling College and I hold a current State of Kansas Teaching License. I have taught 26 years in primary education and absolutely love working with kdg - 3rd gr. students! I spent 22 years in the kindergarten classroom, followed by three years as a small group math and reading interventionist for students in preschool-5th grade. I tutored after school with kdg - 3rd gr. for 20 years using various materials. I helped students with skills that they struggled with in class. I also taught summer school for kdg - 3rd gr. using the same method. I currently serve as a Tier 2 & 3 interventionist. My goal is to meet a student at their current level and help them progress by identifying and addressing learning gaps. For reading, I use a structured literacy program. It is designed to support students with dyslexia, and is highly effective for remediation. I also love teaching primary math skills! Building number sense is essential for a strong math foundation, and I enjoy helping young students strengthen the specific skills they need to fill in those gaps so they are successful and confident!

My preferred method is 1-on-1 in-person tutoring if we live in the same town. I’m also happy to offer online tutoring if that works better for your location. I’m flexible with my hours that are listed and tutoring on weekends as needed.
In 2015, I was the recipient of the St. Katharine Drexel Award. This award is presented to an outstanding teacher at a diocesan school where more than 50 percent of the students receive free or reduced meals. I am very organized and respond to emails quickly and value clear, timely communication! Especially when you need a question answered quickly! Athletes work with coaches to improve their performance. Why shouldn’t students work with a coach to strengthen their academic skills?
Thank you for considering me as a tutor for your child. I’d love the opportunity to support their learning journey!
