My background spans 15 years of classroom teaching and concurrent tutoring on the side. I’ve taught middle school and high school sciences and maths for ten years and undergraduate physiology, first full time and then adjunct when I began primary and secondary school. If pressed to narrow it down, my favorite subjects are physiology and algebra 1 although I am skilled in and love the other subjects listed in my original choices. I have a few other subjects I am qualified to teach and tutor as well.

One of those other subjects is French. I speak fluent french, have traveled to France, and have taught French. My undergraduate second degree is in French Foreign Language from Penn State.

In addition to my educational experience, I have laboratory, clinical, and surgical experience from my graduate school years. I worked on several publication in cell biology labs, worked as a technician in a surgical ophthalmology clinic, and worked as a tissue recovery technician per diem. All of this lends rare and valuable insight into applications and practical aspects of the math and science I love to teach so well. Laboratory work did not match my personality well, due to being so lacking in social interactions. Per diem work did not fit my family aspirations, most cases occuring during second or third shift and all cases occuring unpredictably and requiring extensive travel. I loved both positions, but decided on teaching the next generations of scientists to prepare them for similar experiences! I fell in love with the puzzle of discerning where each student’s learning was and how to begin building momentum to bring them to success!

Students from my classroom and from tutoring know that “alas, I am a tutor”. I feel most fulfilled and enjoy best the interactions that come from helping small groups or individuals match their gifts and talents to the coursework ahead of them. Other careers are more lucrative, but for me none are more life-giving!
