Hello! My name is Juan (JC) B., and I am a licensed teacher in Kansas with certifications in Elementary Education (PK–6) and High-Incidence Special Education (K–12). I graduated summa cum laude with a 3.8 GPA and currently teach 6th grade special education. Before becoming a teacher, I spent five years working in schools as both a behavior paraprofessional (2018–2021) and a resource paraprofessional (2021–2023), supporting students with a wide range of academic and behavioral needs.
In my current role, I teach three special education resource classes and co-teach 6th grade math and ELA in the general education classroom. I also case manage more than 20 students each year, monitoring progress toward academic, social-emotional, executive functioning, and behavior goals. I have extensive experience working with IEPs, accommodations, and curriculum modifications to help students access grade-level content. I regularly support students with learning disabilities, ADHD, and autism and am experienced in identifying skill gaps and providing targeted instruction to help students catch up and build confidence.
My tutoring approach is structured, patient, and individualized. I break complex concepts into manageable steps and use strategies such as visual supports, guided practice, and real-world examples. I have experience teaching reading comprehension, phonics, foundational math skills, study strategies, executive functioning, handwriting, and social-emotional skills, depending on student needs.
I have seen many students make meaningful progress through individualized instruction. For example, I worked with a 6th grade student who began the year reading at a 4th grade level and struggling with comprehension. By the end of the year, she was able to read 6th grade passages fluently and answer comprehension questions with 80% accuracy. I also helped a student with autism develop coping strategies and emotional regulation skills that allowed them to remain in class and participate successfully.
