Hello all! I'm Sonya and I'm here to support your academic success through personalized and supportive tutoring services. I specialize in academic writing from high school through the graduate student level, as well as test prep support. I have a bachelor's degree in International Marketing, a Master's degree in Global and International studies, and am currently pursuing a PhD focused on Central Asian art and culture. As an interdisciplinary scholar, I feel equipped to support students from a variety of fields, including business writing, international studies, cultural studies, gender studies, and more.

Now that I have settled into the first couple years of my PhD program, I am eager to return to teaching and tutoring. I have 4 years of experience in various teaching roles, along with many years of informal tutoring experience. I worked as a teacher at an IELTS and TOEFL test prep center, focusing on writing skills and language development and comprehension with strong improvement rate. I also helped students prepare college admission essays and apply for industry jobs. Beyond this, I also taught test preparation for the United States citizenship exam at a refugee center. I have also taught college level coursework. I was the lead instructor of a 300-level undergraduate course, where I received excellent teaching evaluations from both my students and department, demonstrating my ability to design syllabi, grade essays, and facilitate classroom discussions. Additionally, I earned a top 99% ACT score (35 out of 36) with a perfect reading score.

My tutoring style is personable and personalized. It is important for me to go beyond being able to effectively communicate learning material, but also to listen and respond to your questions and needs.
