Hi! I'm Penny, a passionate teacher and tutor with 18 years of experience specializing in English Language Arts for 9th through 12th graders, as well as public speaking and communications. With a Master’s in Instructional Technology and Bachelor’s degrees in Education and Communication, I bring a wealth of expertise to help students master reading, writing, and critical thinking skills.
Over my career, I’ve taught and tutored in diverse settings including classrooms, one-on-one sessions, and group tutoring; both in person and online. This versatility allows me to adapt to each student’s needs, whether they’re tackling essay composition, analyzing literature, or preparing for exams. My students have achieved higher test scores and improved grades, but nothing beats witnessing them using their critical thinking skills and grasping a difficult concept that was, before, difficult to understand.
My approach is student-focused and dynamic. I leverage my instructional technology background to create engaging, tailored lessons that suit visual, auditory, or hands-on learners. With 18 years of experience, I excel at breaking down complex concepts, like grammar or literary analysis, into clear, manageable steps, fostering confidence and independence in my students.
Outside tutoring, I enjoy journaling, being outside, and reading...all of which helps me connect with students personally. I am hopeful in being able to work together to boost the English skills of young people, and I am excited to guide students toward success!
