I'm Jacob, a 6th-grade teacher at a classical hybrid school in the Kansas City area, and I tutor elementary and middle-school students in math, reading, and writing. I teach the Saxon math curriculum daily and am certified in it, I'm trained in Logic of English for reading and phonics, and I help students learn to organize and write clearly. I also cover pre-algebra, elementary science, study skills, and test prep for state and standardized exams.
My approach is classical and question-driven. I want a child to actually understand the material, not just memorize the steps for one worksheet, so I ask a lot of questions and help them reason to the answer until it sticks. I adapt how I explain things to each student until it clicks. I also work in an after-school care program at a local Catholic elementary school, so I'm patient, focused, and comfortable with kids of every age.
I make the first 30 minutes free so a family can see if it's a good fit before committing. I tutor online and in person around the Mission and Shawnee Mission area. I'm finishing my bachelor's in Elementary Education (3.87 GPA) and hold certifications in Saxon Math, Logic of English, Lower School Science, and classical methodology.

ACT English

ACT English

I'm a 6th-grade teacher finishing my B.S. in Elementary Education (3.87 GPA), and I tutor grammar, usage, and standardized test prep using a classical, question-driven approach. I help students learn the actual grammar and rhetoric rules behind ACT English questions instead of just pattern-matching answers, so the skills transfer to their own writing. I'm patient and used to explaining the same concept multiple ways until it clicks, from years of daily classroom teaching.
ACT Reading

ACT Reading

I'm a certified classroom teacher trained in Logic of English for reading instruction, and I tutor reading comprehension and standardized test strategy. I teach students how to read passages actively, find evidence in the text, and eliminate wrong answers methodically rather than guessing. My approach is classical and question-driven — I want students to actually understand why an answer is right, not just memorize a trick.
Bible Studies

Bible Studies

I'm a 6th-grade teacher at a classical hybrid school where religious and moral formation are part of daily instruction, and I also work in an after-school care program at a local Catholic elementary school. My own faith is a significant part of my life, and I'm well-versed in Scripture and Catholic teaching through years of practice and classical education. I take a question-driven approach with students, helping them understand the text and its context rather than just memorize passages.
Elementary (K-6th)

I teach the Saxon Math curriculum daily and am certified in it, and I'm trained and certified in Logic of English for reading, phonics, and writing instruction. Elementary Science

Elementary Science

I'm a 6th-grade teacher certified in Lower School Science, and I tutor elementary science with a hands-on, question-driven approach. I help students build real understanding of core science concepts rather than just memorizing facts, connecting ideas to things they can observe and test themselves. I'm patient and adapt my explanations until a concept truly clicks.

Literature

Literature

I'm a classroom teacher with a classical, question-driven teaching style, and I tutor literary analysis and reading comprehension. I help students dig into theme, character, and literary devices by asking questions that get them reasoning through the text themselves, rather than handing them the answer. I'm patient and adapt instruction to how each student learns best.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I'm a 6th-grade teacher certified in Saxon Math, and I tutor prealgebra with a classical, question-driven approach. I make sure students understand why each step works, not just how to follow it, so the reasoning transfers to new problems. I'm patient and explain concepts multiple ways until they genuinely click.
Reading

Reading

I teach students to read actively, find evidence in the text, and reason through what they've read rather than just skimming for answers. My approach is classical and question-driven until it clicks.
Study Skills

Study Skills

I'm a 6th-grade teacher who works with students on organization, time management, and study habits as part of daily classroom instruction. I help students build routines like study schedules, active reading strategies, and effective notetaking that actually fit how they learn. I'm patient and focus on building habits that stick, not quick fixes.
Writing

I focus on the fundamentals — structure, grammar, and revision — using a classical, question-driven approach so students understand why a sentence or paragraph works, not just how to fix it. I'm patient and adapt to each student's writing level.
