With over 15 years of experience as an elementary educator, I bring an understanding of child development, curriculum design, and instructional strategies that can make learning stick for a range of ages and ability levels. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Urban Education, a master’s in Curriculum & Instruction, and a doctorate (EdD) in Educational Administration. I’ve worked as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, and one-on-one tutor, and I’m passionate about helping children grow in confidence and skill.

I specialize in literacy instruction, including phonics, spelling, fluency, reading comprehension, and writing. My approach is grounded in the Science of Reading and structured literacy methods, ensuring that literacy instruction is research-based, systematic, and personalized. I’ve taught students from age 2½ through 6th grade and am experienced with Common Core standards, state testing, as well as project and problem based learning models. Whether your child needs help with early phonemic awareness or advanced writing support, I tailor lessons to meet their unique needs.

While I’m confident teaching all core elementary subjects, my strength lies in English Language Arts. I create engaging, supportive learning environments where students feel safe to take risks and make progress. My goal is not just to improve academic skills, but also to build lasting confidence and a love of learning.

Outside the classroom, I’m a published fantasy author with nine novels and a passion for storytelling. I also write educational curriculum and reading programs that combine creativity with high-impact learning. I’d love to support your child in building the strong academic foundation they need to thrive.

Common Core

Common Core

I have extensive experience teaching and aligning instruction to the Common Core State Standards. During my time in public education, I served on district curriculum cadres focused on unpacking and implementing Common Core standards, helping to design pacing guides, assessment tools, and instructional strategies. I also create supports for students with test preparation for state assessments, using practice and methods that build both skills and confidence.

Homeschool

In addition to my 15+ years classroom experience, I’ve been homeschooling my three children part-time for the past five years. This experience has allowed me to balance flexibility with structure. I’ve designed individualized learning plans that prioritize early literacy success, and I use engaging strategies rooted in the Science of Reading. I love to build my own content curriculums while incorporating skills of reading and math in to my units, and would welcome the opportunity to engage with other homeschooled students.
