About Beth

I am a certified elementary teacher with 12 years' experience teaching elementary students as well as six years' additional experience teaching students with special needs. I have tutored students in the Lawrence area for the past six years. I tutor students from age 4 to 7th grade in all areas including reading and math. I have been trained by Reading First, which extensively trains teachers to teach reading to all students.

I enjoy tutoring with hands on game like activities for the younger child. I can help students with their homework, extend and reteach any area that a student may have gaps in. As a special education teacher I am able to diagnose gaps that the students may have and then teach to fill the gaps where your student may be struggling.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Autism

I am a highly qualified special education teacher with a Masters Degree in Special education and a license in the state of Kansas.

I have taught students with autism for the past 5 years in my job. I have also taught 4 years of summer school in a self contained classroom for autism students.

I have written many CAPs for my students with Autism and given the ABBLs diagnostic test for students with autism.

My school district provides training for teachers of students with autism which I have attended regularly.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a highly qualified teacher with a teaching license in the state of Kansas. My certification ends in 2016.

Elementary Math

I am certified in elementary education, but I have also been tutoring students in math for the past five years. I have worked with students from the age of 4 to seventh grade.

My students have made gains while working with me every year. I am able to find the gaps in math through various diagnostic tests and then teach the students to help them feel more confident and reach their best potential.

Phonics

I am a teacher in a Reading First School in Lawrence Kansas. I have an elementary teaching degree and a special education degree. I currently teach pre-reading and reading in my school to early reading children.

Reading

I have been teaching reading for about 20 years. I have been trained in guided reading, analyzing reading errors, Reading First, and Fountas and Pinnel.

I understand how to analyze reading errors and help students make considerable gains in reading.

Special Needs

I am a high qualified special education teacher as my license shows in the state of Kansas. I have taught special education for the past five years in the Lawrence School district.
