Tutoring with humor and compassion. I had excellent teachers, and received A's in all of my general chemistry and physics requirements. I have five years of experience tutoring college chemistry, and two years tutoring statistics. My doctorate is in microbiology, and I use statistical modeling in my science research. Additionally, I have taught science majors and non-majors at ASU and MCC as an instructor and as a teaching assistant for four years.
When I meet a new tutoring client, I start by asking about their goals for tutoring, and what material they want to focus on. I prioritize a supportive and encouraging tutoring environment at all times. I use a variety of established teaching strategies based on modern cognitive science to foster enjoyable and successful learning. After years of tutoring experience, I've learned to hone in on the fastest ways to make complicated topics accessible. I specialize in simple analogies, strategic practice problems, and effective graphics to build student's confidence and fluency from our very first session.
My hobbies include shuffle dancing, stand-up comedy, and history. I'm a first-generation college graduate from a working-class family. My teachers were some of the most positive influences in my life, and I want to pass on their legacy by helping students succeed.
