Hi! Before arriving at Berklee I was primarily self taught, this has allowed me to shape a unique perspective when it comes to educating my students. In the beginning, I had very little guidance when it came to the subjects I am now very familiar with. I had to use varieties of resources and techniques in order to aid in my own education. Not only did I do this to discover new concepts, but to learn and retain them as well. I do not want my students to have to struggle in similar ways. To this end, I take pride in tailoring my teaching approach to my student's unique learning goals. There can be no "one size fits all" approach to teaching if a student is to truly absorb and put to use the information they have been given.
I have had the privilege of tutoring students over the past 5+ years in both trumpet playing and music theory from different eras. In that time, I have used this individualized method to help my students regardless of level or background. While there is NO SHORTCUT to learning music in any sense, and practice is the key to learning any skill, there are easier ways to understand music and to appreciate the beauty that lies therein. Besides helping my students achieve their academic goals, appreciation for the art form is always at the core of my lessons. Another core tenement of my lessons is allowing the student to feel comfortable in the art of discovery. It can be intimidating to begin a subject you have little to no knowledge of, but that can also be part of the fun when framed correctly.
