Hi! I’m Sam, a science educator and researcher with a B.S. in Environmental Sciences from the University of Vermont, where I graduated with a 3.9 GPA, Cum Laude honors, from the Honors College, and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. My academic background includes biology, ecology, environmental science, entomology, genetics, and molecular biology. For my undergraduate honors thesis, I researched the effects of fungicide exposure on histone modifications in the Colorado potato beetle, combining environmental science, entomology, and molecular biology.
After graduating, I worked as a Production Scientist at a science education company, where I developed and produced hands-on laboratory activities and educational materials. I also worked as an Outdoor Educator with Nature’s Classroom, teaching students in grades 3–8 through hands-on lessons in ecology, natural history, wildlife, environmental stewardship, and outdoor science. I led groups of approximately 12 students through field observations, experiments, discussions, demonstrations, and activities, adapting explanations to different ages and learning styles.
I tutor biology, environmental science, ecology, and general science for middle school, high school, and college students. I also enjoy helping students with scientific reading and writing, research methods, and study strategies. My teaching approach is patient, encouraging, and focused on genuine understanding rather than memorization. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and working through difficult concepts, and I aim to make science feel approachable and interesting while helping students build confidence in their own ability to learn it.
