In high school I really enjoyed learning calculus and considered getting a math degree. Instead, I went with engineering and absolutely loved it. I took AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC in high school and Calculus 3 in college at Kansas State University. I got my degree in Industrial Manufacturing Systems Engineering in 2023. But I don't quite get that satisfaction of the "Ah ha!" moment as much as I would like in engineering and want to provide more one on one help with students. I understand getting stuck all night on one problem and want to help relieve that stress and keep students moving and prevent discouragement in their work.
I have tutored several high school students online in the past through a private tutor manager and came to the conclusion that helping with math is my strongest suit. I primarily tutored Algebra 1 and 2 and some high school physics for 2 semesters in 2025. My methods of tutoring include having patience, not speaking over the students, listening to the students, and asking them questions about what they don't understand instead of repeatedly explaining a topic. I understand when they get overwhelmed and when to take a few steps back to get back on track. I am good at spotting when a fundamental is missed and going back to review something that will help them build on what we are currently learning. I get fulfillment from helping the students I have tutored.
I am currently in the process of becoming a substitute teacher and plan on substituting for high school math classes in my local school district.
