About Andrew

Bio

Hi everyone! My name is Andrew, and I am a lifelong lover of school.

I learned that reps + feedback is how I improve. I learned this when preparing for the SAT and my current full-time job interviews. I got better.

I help elementary students build their Math knowledge, and through their own success, show them they can learn anything they put their mind to.

Elementary Math

I have tutored on Wyzant for 5 years now. I am not a homework helper or standard Math tutor. I help parents who are serious about improving their child's understanding of Mathematics. I help parents feel confident that their child is fulfilling their potential in Math and not just hoping or guessing. I do this by helping students build confidence by simply filling foundational gaps through structured, tailored sessions. I have discovered and refined a solution approach for parents who are serious about improving their child's grasp of Mathematics. The essence of the approach is to break down current grade level topics into their fundamental parts and deliver a simple problem to the student. If the student can’t do it, there is simply another gap to address. This takes deliberate focus, patience, and dedication. It is like the student is building a machine in their brain. Limiting the verbal directions to the student helps prevent the student from losing focus or confidence. Once the concept is broken down in its most fundamental parts, it is only a matter of time. The student will grasp it. Anyone can master elementary math. I have seen it. Below is more about the approach: First the student starts with a diagnostic, then sees where he or she is strong and needs improvement. The student works on problems in the area of improvement. If needed, the student studies concepts that these problems build on. The student goes as fundamental as they need to, to the point of using physical objects to learn the concept. Once all the gaps are filled, the student works his or her way back up to the original problems from the area of improvement. If a student loses confidence and motivation, he or she will do a problem from their area of strength and move back to the areas of improvement. I walk the student along each step of this process. This is a systemized approach that presents Math to each individual student in the order that their brain needs to receive it in. in the order that the individual student nee

Great teacher!! Helped tremendously

Andrew helped me with revising my resume and while doing this, he prepared me for interviews. He had me going into detail and revisiting every experience on my resume, which helped me pull out important information that I didn’t even think to add. Overall an amazing tutor, he definitely knows what he is doing!
