I am a veteran secondary education teacher of Spanish who has taught middle and high school Spanish as well as undergraduate Spanish at Purdue. I have lived abroad and studied or have conducted research in Mexico, Spain, Uruguay, Argentina, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. For my research, I specialize in Heritage Spanish, Afro-Hispanic and Spanish Caribbean culture and literature. I am also extremely familiar with Chicano and Puerto-Rican American cultures. I am a veteran secondary education teacher of Spanish who has taught middle and high school Spanish as well as undergraduate Spanish at Purdue. I have lived abroad and studied or have conducted research in Mexico, Spain, Uruguay, Argentina, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. For my research, I specialize in Heritage Spanish, Afro-Hispanic and Spanish Caribbean culture and literature. I am also extremely familiar with Chicano and Puerto-Rican American cultures. I have taught all levels of high school Spanish, including AP. Although I am secondary certified, I have also taught elementary school Spanish for grades 1, 3, 4, and 5. I have a lot of experience with children of all ages either through my career or volunteer work for my family's activities.

What I love most about tutoring is helping the students. By the time a student searches for a tutor, he or she is at a very low point in their language-learning confidence. I break down the difficult pieces and make it very easy for students to understand and internalize and eventually use with confidence the different structures. Spanish is not difficult--perhaps the way you had been presented with it was just not the best way to reach you. All students are capable of mastering Spanish according to their abilities. It is a matter of figuring out what methods work best with each individual.

I am a non-native speaker of Spanish, testing at the highest level of proficiency possible. I have 25 years experience teaching Spanish through the undergraduate level. I have a full Master's and am ABD for my PhD in Spanish. I have traveled to and conducted research in a variety of Spanish-speaking countries. Therefore, my linguistic varieties with which I am familiar are many. I love the Spanish language and the rich cultures throughout the world.
