Bio

I am a practicing mathematician and physicist with experience helping students from around the world to overcome obstacles in their learning: from tricky concepts, to finding confidence, to language barriers. I believe math and physics can make sense to anyone, and I have the tools to help you get there.

I am a practicing mathematician and physicist with experience helping students from around the world to overcome obstacles in their learning: from tricky concepts, to finding confidence, to language barriers. I believe math and physics can make sense to anyone, and I have the tools to help you get there.

After completing my physics degree at the University of Chicago, I spent a year as a Peace Corps volunteer teaching Math and English in Lesotho. Since then, I have been researching computational fluid dynamics and tutoring. Over the last 5 years, I've tutored and taught hundreds of hours of physics and math from the elementary-school level to quantum mechanics.

I've worked with children, with undergrads, and with grad students. I also have experience working with students who have learning disabilities (including dyslexia, dyscalculia, and ADHD). I'm comfortable working at your pace and taking time to help you find *your* way.

I take an approach focused on deep understanding and solving interesting problems together, not drilling or cramming. Our lessons will feel more like conversations than lectures, and I'll give you the wheel as often as possible. If we work online, we'll use tools like Desmos and Idroo to work together and help visualize the math.

Feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule a session. I look forward to working together!

Elementary (K-6th)

I taught K-6 reading, writing, and math for a year as a Peace Corps volunteer in Lesotho. I also worked for 3 years as a math coach for a non-profit called Math Circles of Chicago, helping kids to explore new ideas in math and develop small projects of their own. I tutor all levels, but my philosophy with kids is patience, acceptance and encouragement, plus plenty of fun and exploration :) I will take the time to get to know your child's skill level and challenges, and we will build a personal plan to build knowledge and confidence from there. I have a heap of fun activities to help your kid get engaged. After tutoring with me, they'll want to learn more :)
Thermodynamics

Thermodynamics

I tutor all physics, but my specialty as a scientist is thermodynamics, particularly with fluids. My expertise ranges from the basics - Boltzmann distributions and Carnot cycles - to the complicated transport of heat in turbulent and multi-phase flows. I am published in the field of thermal hydraulics. I have completed undergrad and graduate level coursework in thermodynamics.
