About Anne

Bio

I am an educator with 14 years' experience teaching English to at-risk students and directing an alternative school for potential drop-outs. I firmly believe I am responsible for helping and encouraging over 500 students to graduate from high school who may not have.

I follow the theory of using multiple intelligences. I know every student can succeed; all a teacher has to do is find his or her learning style and cater to it.

In my experience as an alternative school director, it was the one-on-one method that took my students from straight F's all the way to the graduation stage. Relationship building is also extremely important in getting through to students. So many kids who struggle do so because they have had a bad experience with a teacher which has turned them off. When I connect with kids on a personal level, I turn around their attitude about school. Until their minds are open, they cannot succeed.

I can't wait to hear from you and meet your student and get him or her on the path to better grades and graduation!

I currently work in College Admissions. The major part of my job lies in advising students in choosing classes to schedule. I also advise them in choosing among our degrees depending upon their goals and backgrounds.
GED

GED

I taught high school English for fourteen years, I teach college English, and I also ran an alternative school that helped students graduate or earn a GED.
Phonics

Phonics

I am a secondary English teacher. I have always taught at-risk students. Vocabulary is always a large part of my literature lessons. Many of my at-risk students have struggled with learning new words. I have had to use phonics to help them sound out and learn this new vocabulary. I have used phonics to teach vocabulary for 14 years.
Photography

Photography

For nine years, I was the yearbook advisor on top of teaching English. Part of teaching yearbook journalism was teaching photography. I taught students how to work with content, subject matter, contrast, and composition. I also had a dark room which I taught the students how to use. Besides teaching photography, it is also my hobby. I used to own my own dark room.
Praxis

Praxis

A teacher with 14-years' experience, I also took the Praxis. My master's degree is in curriculum and instruction. I have mentored new teachers in the past.
Study Skills

Study Skills

I have 14 years' experience teaching at-risk students. The last 4 years of my experience was directing an alternative school for potential dropouts. Both with regular ed and alternative ed students, a major issue with their struggles was the fact that they had no idea how to study. I not only taught units on the matter, but did constant modeling of proper study skills.
