Hello! My name is Anthony Borrelli and I am a state-licensed secondary educator in both Mathematics and English with two years of high school classroom teaching experience and a background in special education.
One thing I like to tell students on day one is that I know math is rarely anyone’s favorite subject—it definitely wasn't mine growing up, either! I have experienced the frustration of mathematics firsthand, and I firmly believe every student is capable of finding success with the right support.
My approach to teaching is very conversational. I find the best way to approach math in particular is to talk through problems step-by-step together. My goal is to create a laid-back, low-pressure environment where students feel completely comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building confidence.
In my two years of high school teaching, I’ve taught 9th grade Algebra 1, 11th grade Geometry, and 11th grade English (with an emphasis on British literature including Shakespeare, Dickens, and Stevenson).
Before leading my own classroom, I spent a year as a special education instructional aide working directly with IEP students. I am known for adapting lessons to individual accommodation needs, and my school frequently places IEP students in my classes because of my patient and structured approach as well as my ability to meet each student where they are.
Given my dual licensure I am capable of working with middle school, high school, and college students in the following areas:
Math: Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry
English: Literature Analysis, Creative Writing, Essay Writing, and Thesis Statements.
Feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule your first online lesson—I look forward to working with you!
I have received a Master’s in Secondary Education (English Ed) from Western Governors University and a BFA in Screenwriting from Azusa Pacific University.
