Hello, I decided to attend nursing school because my high school friend said, “Go to nursing school with me! It will be so much fun!” And I said, “Okay” even though it wasn’t on my radar at all. I have been a registered nurse for 46 years. I obtained my bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from Wayne State University. I obtained a master’s degree in the adult health nursing, clinical nurse specialist program (MSN) at Eastern Michigan University. I also obtained a certificate in teaching for health careers at the same time. In 2016 I completed my Doctorate in Nursing Practice at Madonna University. I am a board-certified adult health clinical nurse specialist, which is an advanced practice nurse.
I have been a nursing instructor for over 20 years and am currently working as an on-line tutor for nursing students. I have taught nursing for a variety of programs, both associate degree and bachelor’s degree, at community colleges and universities, both public and private. The courses I have taught include basic and advanced medical and surgical nursing, maternal-newborn care, nursing foundations/fundamentals, management, mental/behavioral health, and pharmacology. I have not worked in or taught pediatrics. I also tutor nurses who are pursuing their graduate degrees , primarily with academic writing.
I thoroughly enjoy being a nurse and an instructor. If I didn’t love it, I would not have remained in the field for 46 years. My motto for my students has always been, “Failure is not an option.” But I do expect my students to work at least as hard as I do for them to succeed. I tailor the teaching methods to work with the student’s preferred learning style. I prefer to use the materials (PowerPoint presentations, syllabus) that the student is using in their class for consistency. I look forward to meeting you and working with you.
