So although my undergraduate degree is in History, I have years of calculus and high-level math under my belt and have my Indiana mathematics teaching certification! I teach at an adult high school, so I largely work with students 16 years and up, but I'm comfortable helping anyone!
I was a Boy Scout growing up and use the BSA's EDGE method when teaching and tutoring: Explain, Demonstrate, Guide, Enable. First, I'll explain what we're going to do, then demonstrate it to you while explaining it once more. After, I'll guide you through some problems until you can do it on your own!
