Welcome! I just graduated summa cum laude from Wheaton College with a bachelor's in Classical Languages and a certificate in Latin for Classical Christian Education. I earned Departmental Honors through the completion of my undergraduate thesis. I am also a member of my college's Scholastic Honor Society. I study both Latin and Ancient Greek (Koine [Biblical] and some Attic). This fall, I will begin a master's in Classics to dive deeper into these two languages that I love, with the goal of becoming a middle or high school Latin teacher.
My teaching experience includes both private tutoring and classroom settings. Last year I tutored a homeschooled eight-year-old. I started the student in Latin from scratch, and we worked through two textbooks for young children. I prioritized grammar, history, stories, and relating Latin to English. I have also tutored college students through the language center at my college. I assisted them by answering questions and providing extra practice. My tutoring style emphasizes ensuring the student has an understanding of how to learn and is provided with memorization help. I also prioritize reading stories and connecting learning to both the ancient world and the student's interests. A benefit of studying ancient languages is the opportunity to incorporate art, philosophy, history, and more.
In addition to private tutoring, I did a practicum at a classical school where I led two seventh grade Latin class sessions. In this setting I employed grammar review exercises for both large and small groups.
I am open to work with all ages, whether or not you are already studying Latin or Greek. I can provide additional review help, or we can start from the beginning. My hope is that students gain confidence they are capable of understanding the Latin and Greek language systems and that students explore the multi-faceted subject matter of Classics. Please reach out with any questions! I am happy to work with each student to determine what schedule and goals best suit them.
