Howdy folks!

Hi! I’m Joshua, but most students and families know me as Jay or Mr. Romero. I’m a certified English Language Arts teacher based in Mishawaka, Indiana, currently teaching 7th/8th grade ELA. I graduated summa cum laude from Arizona State University with a B.A. in Secondary Education (English), along with minors in History and Sociology and a certificate in Civic Education.

I’ve always believed that reading and writing are more than just academic skills — they’re tools for expression, connection, and confidence. My goal is to help students feel seen, supported, and capable. I design engaging, student-centered lessons that meet learners where they are, focusing on reading comprehension, grammar, writing structure, and vocabulary development.

I've always known I wanted to teach, but I first started tutoring in high school where I tutored College Mathematics before going on to college to teach and tutor essay writing, grammar, public speaking and even teaching future teachers! Since graduating I've taught middle school reading and writing, helping to tutor students to their highest potential.

Beyond my current teaching role, I’ve served as a peer mentor and course instructor through AmeriCorps at ASU, where I supported first-year college students academically and personally. That experience helped me better understand how to guide learners of all levels with patience, empathy, and clarity.
