Supportive Math Tutor with Youth Teaching Experience

I am a freshman in college at Indiana Wesleyan University, where I balance a strong academic record with the demands of collegiate athletics. Managing both has strengthened my discipline, organization, and ability to mentor others — qualities that carry directly into my tutoring approach.
I have several years of hands-on experience working with students in academic and youth-development settings. My tutoring background includes supporting middle-school students who struggled with math by creating simple lesson plans, checking for understanding, and breaking concepts down into manageable steps. I enjoy helping students transition from feeling overwhelmed to confident, and I adjust my teaching style to suit each student's learning style, whether they learn best through visual examples, step-by-step practice, or discussing their thought process. I am comfortable working one-on-one or with small groups, and I prioritize genuine understanding over simply completing assignments.
Before tutoring, I served as an assistant teacher at the Boys and Girls Club, where I worked daily with children aged five to six during both academic and recreational periods. I also taught weekly lessons at Ransom Church, where I led activities, supervised a classroom of young children, and adapted learning materials for different attention levels and learning styles. These roles helped me develop patience, clear communication, and the ability to explain concepts in a way that makes sense to each unique learner.
Overall, I aim to create a supportive and encouraging learning environment where students feel capable, confident, and motivated to improve. My goal is not just to help students complete their work, but to help them build the skills and mindset they need to succeed independently. I am trying out this website for the first time which explains the lower tutoring hours!
