Where to even begin with Aaron… I have been working periodically with him for almost two years, and I have, with certainty, never worked with a better tutor. Aaron turned what begin as a simple homework assignment question in a CS class into a life-long passion for computer science. When I first began this course, I looked to Aaron for clarification, and he went on to work with me for any concept clarification. However, one aspect differentiated Aaron from all other tutors: his ability to foster a deeper level of understanding while teaching, often depicting concepts with diagrams, hand-drawn visuals, animations, flowcharts, and more. When we approached each and every concept, he ensured that I both retained the fundamental way of how to code the concept and its functionality, but additionally how it can be applied to other aspects of coding. He taught me how I can utilize a simple concept, from a loop to an if statement, and apply its functionality to any code segment I might encounter. He achieved this by creating countless example code segments, and going line by line through each multiple choice question, demonstrating how the code achieved its purpose. By applying our lesson subjects to both real world concepts and other CS concepts, he ensured that the material will be eternally engrained in my knowledge. A notable instance of his applicability is when we were discussing the various errors that one might encounter in a code’s execution. To more effectively explain the difference between Syntax errors and logic errors, he compared the errors to how one might make mistakes in English grammar, allowing me to understand them at the fundamental level of how I would a language I have spoke my entire life.
