Hello!
My name is Ben and I love making learning fun! My tutoring experience includes three years of in-person tutoring specializing in math, reading, and ESL and one year of online tutoring in math and language arts. I have also taught ESL classes online and in person for people from all over the world. As for classroom experience, I am a former adjunct faculty member for the University of Alaska-Fairbanks in their extended education program where I taught students math skills as well as cultural and architectural history using the game, Minecraft as a medium for learning. In addition, I have taught online classes in literature and photography of an online academy. Currently, I run online social gaming clubs and also homeschool my own children.
My philosophy is that learners learn best under the best circumstances. I take several steps to ensure the best circumstances for each learner. My first step is identifying and using the learner's strongest learning style. Each learner is different and different things will be helpful for each student. Finding and engaging with the tools and strategies that work for each student is key. Also, creating a safe and comfortable space to learn means that students don't need to worry about making mistakes because mistakes are how we learn. Building confidence in the learner's skills and abilities gives them the ability to face learning current and future topics without fear or overwhelm. Lastly, I believe in having fun while learning. I believe all learners have great potential and I would love to help your student reach theirs!
